Brighter Future for Downtown Chicago Condos (From Rented Spaces)
If you’re looking for a condo in the Windy City, you’ll be paying (on average) 9% less than you would have paid in 2007, according to Rented Spaces. This fantastic time to buy won’t last much longer, as construction of new condos will slow dramatically in 2010 and 2011 as the ones built between 2006 and 2009 are sold.
From Rented Spaces:
“The number of condos for sale should keep dropping. Developers finished more than 4,000 condos a year from 2006 to 2009. But only 900 new condos are under construction for 2010 and only 86 condos are in the works for 2011.”

Much like Chicago’s location in the Midwest, condo values in the Windy City fall somewhere in the middle. “Condos are much stronger here than in boom and bust towns like Miami or Las Vegas, and they are weaker than in markets where condos are relatively hard to built, like Boston or New York City.”
